This research study investigates how experienced teachers, who move into the role of math coach, learn and implement their new role. The investigators for this study propose to investigate how our math coaches are learning and implementing their role. Math coaching is a young idea in the field of mathematics education, and there is very little known about this role. It would be beneficial to be able to investigate each of their stories, describing the learning that is taking place as they experience this new and different role of a mathematics coach. The proposed study would also provide valuable data as to the particular rewards and challenges being met by our coaches in their schools. This information can be used to accommodate their particular needs in our professional development. In addition, because so little is known about math coaching, this study can provide some groundwork for understanding this fairly new role in our field.
